Low carb (carbohydrate), high protein diets are the latest dieting rage. However, before you jump on the band wagon, you may want to consider a few things:
1. Low carb diets reduce the healthy glycogen (storage form of glucose) stores in your muscles and liver. When you reduce glycogen, you also get dehydrated, often causing the scale to drop significantly in the first week or two. This is usually interpreted as fat loss when it’s actually from dehydration and muscle loss.
2. Lessening of muscle glycogen causes you to tire easily, and makes exercise and movement unpleasant. Research shows that muscle fatigue increases in almost direct proportion to the rate of reduction of muscle glycogen.
3. Reduction of muscle glycogen leads to muscle atrophy. The reason for this is because muscle glycogen is the fuel of choice for the muscle during activity. Without muscle glycogen, the muscle fibers that contract, contract less when glycogen is not directly available. Reduction of muscle glycogen also causes you to exercise less than normal leading to muscle loss and the failure to maintain sufficient muscle tone.
4. Loss of muscle triggers a slow down in your basal metabolic rate (metabolism). Metabolism occurs in the muscle. Less muscle/muscle tone means a slower metabolism meaning, fewer calories burned every day.
5. Your muscles become saggy and cause you to look saggy. Saggy doesn’t look good and causes you to look unhealthy.

Ayurveda
Research shows that being overweight or even morbidly obese seems to be quite a widespread problem worldwide. Ayurveda is well thought-out to be an excellent natural way to lose weight. It types human bodies into two categories - the very thin and the very fat. Fat bodies wrestle with more diseases including high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, and gall bladder problems. The main thinking behind Ayurveda is the belief that being over-weight is due to overeating, irregular eating habits, and not eating properly balanced meals. They highly recommend natural weight loss home remedies - a diet you can easily follow at home. Please remember, even this approach suggests exercising regularly. Ayurveda promotes eating more fruits and green veggies, avoid extra salt, and avoid fatty dairy products, meat and non-vegetarian foods. Use dried ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper (fat burners). Avoid rice and potatoes, and eat whole wheat based cereal. Eat bitter gourd, and take honey as it mobilizes fat deposits (10 gms daily in hot water with 1 tsp of lemon juice). Try a lime/honey fast to keep energy levels up. Mix the juice of half a lime and 1 tsp fresh honey in lukewarm water at regular intervals. Cabbage is publicized for slowing down the conversion of sugar and other carbohydrates into fat. Eat cabbage raw or cooked. And, make your portion size smaller. Supplements are also suggested like Ezi Slim, Medohar Vidangadi Lauh, Punarnavadi Guggul and Neemguard. Evidently Neemguard ( Neem, Giloy and Triphala)is considered safe for revving up your metabolism to trim down your weight and the Indian herb guggulu (a gum resin acquired from the plant of Balsamo-dendron mukul) is the drug of choice for treating obesity. Many of the herbs used in other countries, while likely effective, may be of questionable use to you if you are not sure just what they are, and what they do. While the Ayurveda supplements are herbal and natural, you will want to check with your Doctor before embarking on a weight loss program like this.
